High-temperature-resistant grades

Our high-temperature-resistant grades are optimized for high-temperature conditions and are much more stable against ageing, gas oxidation, creep and strength losses compared with regular stainless steels. Data on strength losses at extreme temperatures, creep resistance and high-temperature corrosion are available on request.

Cryogenic temperature-resistant grades

Sub-zero and cryogenic temperatures generally increase the brittleness of steels and metals. However, austenitic stainless steels have better impact strength at very low temperatures. Some BUMAX grades are suitable for use in cryogenic temperature applications as low as -273 °C (0 K) while still retaining their mechanical properties.

Understanding temperature

Selecting an appropriate temperature-resistant grade is crucial, as extended exposure to extreme temperatures can gradually compromise a fastener’s mechanical properties. This may result in reduced strength, ductility, corrosion resistance and fatigue resistance. 

Thermal expansion

Only a special high-temperature resistant grade such as BUMAX® HE is recommended for prolonged use at temperatures above 300°C.
